Active matter & collective motion

From bacterial baths to artificial microswimmers, energy injected at the particle scale produces flows, defects and pattern formation at the macroscale.

We study the kinetic theories that describe dense active suspensions, the limits of mean-field descriptions, and the interplay between motility and hydrodynamics.

Central questions include when motility induces phase separation, how hydrodynamic interactions reshape collective swimming, and what controls the emergence of coherent flow and topological defects.
